Zombie Day: Songs of Righteousness and Resurrection

img_0795.jpg
I made green deviled eggs to go with my neighbor’s Easter ham. Scott and I usually celebrate Zombie Day by watching Night of the Living Dead, but this year we succumbed to parent peer pressure and went to Suzanne’s egg hunt instead. Oh how the goth have fallen…

The last blog I posted is officially un-posted and that’s because it was that most common of things- an angry blog. My dear husband, the only person I know who most of the time actually does do what Jesus would have done (not including the tricky resurrection bit and barring Scott’s mild obsessions with art-porn and Ultimate Fighting), suggested that I might want to keep that kind of venom in my private writing (what’s that?) and work instead on my forgiveness. In her book Traveling Mercies, Anne Lamott says roughly that you’ve got to forgive even the bullies, the people who say mean things about your kid and the people who think they’re better than you. I’m not there yet. No, I’m not there yet at all. But I did un-post my blog.

And I sought redemption at my church of choice: The Church of Leonard Cohen. I went to the Nokia Theater with my friend Silas on Saturday night and we watched the poet/preacher exorcize spirits and midwife wonder and just generally be a brilliant, smooth and sexy old dude in a fedora. Leonard Cohen on forgiveness: “I swear by this song, and by all that I have done wrong, I will make it all up to thee.”

And here’s the next thing about which I’ll have to ask for redemption one day, I’m sure… a picture of Tariku in the bath. Forgive me son, but you are just too cute. I will make it all up to thee.
